Automotive and other art by Graham Hawkins

I’m a late thirty something who has always had an interest in art. From pencil sketches at school, art & art history lessons at college, through photography, computer graphics, and in later years watercolour and acrylic paintings.

Due to having a great interest in cars, and their designs, and believing that there is always some feature that makes a car unique, my paintings tend to focus on just a part of a vehicle that clearly identifies it.

I am impressed by hugely technical drawings and paintings, but have had no desire (or the patience) to follow that route myself. Equally I feel that whilst technically brilliant, painting a picture in such detail that it looks photographic is not for me.

Using a computer to manipulate images and photos, to speed up the creative process,  allows me to try many colour variations, and play around with the layout before settling on a final composition I like. This is then hand painted onto canvases in acrylics.

The study of basic shapes and reflections in cars has made me see similar things in all sorts of other subjects, so I continue to experiment and branch out.
